Version 009 — a wind turbine for the property

24 September 2026. Marcus asked to add his own wind turbine to the property, the associated Git project and the public project page.

Design

Added a conventional three-blade horizontal-axis turbine on a freestanding, tapered galvanised mast, with an ivory rotor/nacelle, tail vane, foundation cap and indicative lockable isolation cabinet. The illustrative location is (-36, 40) m, beyond the northwestern edge of the homestead. The hub is 18 m above local concept terrain and the rotor is 6 m in diameter. These are visual study dimensions, not a selected product, rated output or engineered design.

Retain solar and energy storage. Keep the turbine out of the garden court, future pavilion footprints, food beds and basketball reserve. Its final position, tower height, foundations, access and electrical route must be reconsidered against the actual site. No setback or wind clearance is verified.

Deliverables and version boundaries

  • Public model: blender/samford-solarpunk-wind-tour-v009.blend, derived only from the distributable v007 model. Prior binaries remain unchanged.
  • Private model: /home/marcus/projects-private/samford-valley-home-v009/ contains the turbine added to the licensed v008 Blender scene. Never copy that binary into public Git or the web root.
  • Matching detailed and lightweight viewport geometry; the original 31 tour chapters remain, with turbine chapter 32 added (2 min 40 sec total).
  • Updated concept plan, actual Blender overview render, website and context.
  • The Unreal projects and v007 film retain their previous contents. The turbine has not yet been imported into Unreal or added to the film.

Before equipment selection

Measure the wind resource at a representative proposed hub height and assess terrain, tree/building turbulence and seasonal variation. Then compare a supplier's independently supported power curve and expected annual energy against the household load and solar/storage plan. No output or payback is assumed in this revision.

Obtain site-specific advice on council planning/building requirements, tower engineering and geotechnical conditions, noise and neighbours, vegetation and wildlife, maintenance access and electrical protection. The electrical designer must establish compatible turbine control, braking/dump-load arrangements where required, battery/inverter integration, isolation and earthing. If grid-connected, confirm the combined generation connection requirements with Energex.

The existing lack of survey, property boundary, site wind measurements and engineering remains explicit. The pending wall-integrated bed is unchanged.
